Claim your 1 Year risk free trial here: How to Lower Your Cholesterol Without Drugs Dear Reader, Last week, I told you about 'number needed to treat' statistics, or NNT. For those of you who missed last week's alert, here's a brief catch-up: NNT answers the question: How many people have to take a particular drug to avoid one incidence of a medical issue (such as a heart attack)? For example, if a drug had an NNT of 50 for heart attacks, then 50 people have to take the drug in order to prevent one heart attack... Now, if you're a drug manufacturer, you would much rather that folks like me and you didn't focus on NNT... because we'd see their so-called 'miracle drugs' in an entirely different light. In fact, we'd soon realise that the majority of cholesterol-[delete space] lowering drugs just aren't worth taking, simply because they don't work. A case in point is the statin Lipitor, manufactured by Pfizer. A large clinical study showed that 3% of patients taking a sugar pill or placebo had a heart attack compared to 2% of patients taking Lipitor. So, ultimately, taking Lipitor resulted in just one fewer heart attack per 100 people... Take away the risk without taking the drugs With millions of people taking cholesterol-lowering statins, you can imagine how disconcerting it must be to discover they may be taking dangerous side-effect ridden drugs that have absolutely no benefit when it comes to preventing heart attacks... After all, that is why doctors tell us we must take these drugs... to prevent dying from a heart attack. What doctors don't tell us, is that there are ways to maintain healthy cholesterol levels and protect our hearts, WITHOUT taking any drugs. Of course, you won't hear about these safe and effective natural alternatives because that would mean less money flowing into Big Pharma's bottomless pockets! The following simple measures can help maintain healthy cholesterol levels and a healthy heart: - Omega-3 is key: Make sure you're getting plenty omega-3 fatty acids. Research has shown that as little as 500mg per day can lower your total cholesterol and triglyceride(blood fat) levels and increase your HDL 'good' cholesterol.
- Say no to sugar: Eliminate sugar (especially refined sugar) from your diet. If your HDL 'good' / LDL 'bad' cholesterol ratio is abnormal it may be a good idea to avoid eating fruit too, since it is a source of fructose. Once your cholesterol improves, you can gradually reintroduce it to your diet.
- Eat a good portion of your food raw, especially vegetables like broccoli, carrots, beetroot and garlic, which have all been shown shown to help reduce LDL cholesterol.
- Eat healthy fats: These include olive oil, coconut and coconut oil, organic raw dairy products (including butter), avocados, raw nuts, seeds, eggs (lightly cooked with yolks intact) and organic, grass-fed meats.
- Exercise: When you exercise you not only increase your circulation and the blood flow throughout your body, but you also strengthen your immune system, giving your body a better chance of fighting an illness before it has the opportunity to spread.
- Avoid smoking and drinking excessive amounts of alcohol.
- Address your emotional challenges and stress.

Better still, invite them to join us on our blog, The Cholesterol Truth, which is dedicated to exposing the truth behind cholesterol-lowering drugs and helping you to find safe, natural alternatives to maintaining a healthy heart. This week on The Cholesterol Truth, contributing editor and world-renowned health expert, Dr. John Briffa writes about Fibrates. This class of drug is used to treat abnormalities in blood fat levels and in some cases, taking this drug, can actually increase your risk of fatal heart attack and overall risk of death. Professor Barry Carpenter, director of a two-year review into the teaching of children with special needs, said that the methods used by schools were outdated, especially in coping with the "avalanche of pupils" with learning difficulties caused mainly by very premature birth. ADD has increasingly been treated with methylphenidate drugs such as the dangerous drug, Ritalin, rather than through educational intervention and other methods. Prof. Carpenter lashed out at this approach and asked, "Can we do no better than the pharmaceutical cosh?" He added that treating young children with hardcore pharmaceuticals showed some success but that it is necessary to consider whether it is a viable treatment option for all pupils... No need to 'consider' for too long Prof. Carpenter... especially since Ritalin is known to cause any or all of the following: psychosis, hostility, zombie-like behaviour, hallucinations, hair loss, bed-wetting, convulsions, heart attack, and death... it's most definitely not a 'viable option' to expose anyone to these kinds of dangers, let alone children!
