Technology is such an incredible tool for all areas of life. But there are definitely some issues that need to be ironed out, especially in the area of the personal vs. the public. Where do you think teachers should draw the line? ~Beth

Comment of the Week: Why Are Teachers Held to Higher Personal Standards?
In light of the recent news item describing a teacher who was fired for venting about her students on her personal Facebook page, commenter Elaine brings up a passionate point:

When does everybody else get held accountable??? How about parents actually parenting so we don't have to? How about students actually achieving to the standard that is required to advance to the next grade? How about politicians being held accountable for how our money is spent so that we are not in such a financial crisis? How about EVERYBODY being held to a higher standard and not just teachers.

Teacher Tapes Student's Mouth Shut
Today I happened upon this news item about a middle school teacher who taped a chatty student's mouth shut. I was surprised that a teacher would do such a thing, especially in today's litigious society. The teacher faces discipline through being reassigned to another school.

It seems that, if you're above a certain age, you can remember teachers resorting to unconventional discipline strategies that would be considered questionable and controversial nowadays.

What do you think about teachers using tape to silence their students? Should this teacher lose her job over the matter?... Read more
